Red Bull Arts Book Share Launches in Chicago

We are excited to announce the addition of Chicago to the Red Bull Arts Book Share where we are working with Semicolon Bookstore in support of Circles and Ciphers and Brave Space Alliance. Collectively these groups are on the frontline of racial and social justice working to reform the prison industrial complex, create networks of support for underserved communities, and provide safe spaces for education and reflection.

Circles and Ciphers is a hip-hop infused restorative justice organization led by and for young people impacted by violence. Through art-based peace circles, education, and direct action they collectively heal and work to bring about the abolition of the prison-industrial complex. Brave Space Alliance is the first Black-led, trans-led LGBTQ Center located on the South Side of Chicago, dedicated to creating and providing affirming, culturally competent, for-us by-us resources, programming, and services for LGBTQ individuals on the South and West sides of the city.

The Red Bull Arts Book Share sends a foundational anti-racist or black-authored book to individuals in our community who donate to select organizations. This donation drive aims to get necessary resources directly into the hands of the organizations doing frontline work on racial equity and justice, to stimulate black-owned businesses in our communities, and to facilitate the ongoing education around race which many people are beginning or deepening.
